BEER NUTS Review.. A REAL Retro Dad Snack

While Beer Nuts are still around, I sure as heck can't find them in the stores as easily as I used to. Over the last couple of years I was shocked to find that a lot of younger folks I've talked to, have no clue what Beer Nuts are, so here's a quick explanation. Simply put, Beer Nuts are a peanut with a sweet and salty glazing. They were around years before honey roasted or flavored nuts hit the market, and they are the prefect snack to eat alongside beer.

For my old man, Beer Nuts were the quintessential snack to eat with beer. He used to stock pile cans of these things in the cupboard for football games and boxing matches. I remember Dad happily sharing his cans of Beer Nuts with me when I was a wee lad. I used to think I was getting away with something, because I simply equated that the nuts had beer in them.

When I turned 21 years old, the first thing I did was buy a six pack of Miller Genuine Draft, and a can of Beer Nuts.  I remember sitting at home that night watching an episode of 'Married with Children'. As I sipped on lager and snacked on Beer Nuts, all was right with the world and I felt like a king.

A Retro Beer accompanied by Beer Nuts on a hot summer afternoon

Do you ever feel the need to indulge in some old school snacking? I often get the urge to do so quite often. Not too long ago, I was working in the garage on some of my old bikes. I took a break and headed out to the liquor store with a faint idea of what I wanted to buy. Some old school beer and some sort of snack that Dad would've enjoyed, whilst working on weekend projects back in the 70s.

As soon as I saw this retro looking six pack of Miller High Life on the shelf, I knew I had to buy it. When I was a boy, I remember my Old Man drinking Miller quite often, and nine times out of ten he'd be snacking on Beer Nuts all the while. Therefore, when I saw the Beer Nuts on the shelf, I of course had to grab a can!

It was a beautiful summer day, and I was spending it in my garage engaging in one of my favorite hobbies. The garage door was wide open, birds were singing, and a warm breeze gently moved through the garage. I'd toss the occasional Beer Nut in the air and watch my Labrador skillfully catch it every time. Being able to do something I love, had me totally Zen and made my week. I was at one with my bikes, the weather, the Beer Nuts and ice cold beer.

I do believe Beer Nuts have a superpower. And that is, to make any beer taste better! At least that was the case with the Miller High Life I drank that afternoon. I may have to test this theory further soon. Also.. if you are eating a healthier diet as I have been lately, Beer Nuts won't break the calorie bank and are pretty healthy. They are gluten free, are a low in sodium, and are even kosher!

I'm sure it comes as no surprise that Beer Nuts have been on my mind a lot lately. However, every store I check never stocks them. I think it's high time I start hoarding them myself. Enter Amazon! I find them there for around $18.00 to $22.00 for three cans. That may sound steep, but the Beer Nuts website sells them for $7.99 a can plus shipping. Amazon works out to be roughly $6.25 to $7.30 a can with free Prime shipping!

I've been ordering them through Amazon somewhat regularly, and hoard them like a squirrel as soon as they arrive. It's not that I don't like to share, but until I can find them in stores, these snacks are like GOLD and I'll be rationing out servings to myself, and to anyone else I might be sharing them with. I've shared a link below in case you want to give Beer Nuts a try, or desperately need to be reunited with these incredible snacks from yesteryear.
