Theretrodad.com experienced a huge bump in site traffic during the month of July. Upon checking my site stats, I saw massive amounts of Google searches for 'Cookie-Crisp' that were directing viewers to an older Cookie Crisp article I wrote. Therefore, I decided to dust off that old article, and add some more in depth history about the cereal, as well as the mascots we've seen over the years. Ah, Cookie Crisp Cereal. RETRO HUNT! My search for the classic 'Bic Clic' pen

I've been on the hunt lately for a decent writing pen to use at my job. I use a pen all day long and the current pens at my disposal just don't cut it. Here's what I require in a writing utensil.. DURABILITY. A pen that stands up to everyday use and abuse. DEPENDABILITY. Long lasting, with a point that writes clearly and nicely. FUNCTIONALITY. No removable cap. A pen that securely stays put in my front shirt pocket. AFFORDABILITY. Can I have it all at a decent price? I went to several stores and found absolutely nothing that fit the bill. I found a few pens that came close, but they had gel ink which I can't stand. Finally it struck me. My go-to pen for decades was the Bic Clic. However, I hadn't used or seen one for sale in at least 15 years. I knew these old pens would be perfect for my needs at home, work, etc., so my hunt began. 1970s John Deere 10 speed bike rebuild

by Darrin Vindiola This year I completed a recent bike project.. a 1972 John Deere 10-speed that my old man handed down to me.  These bikes were only made for three years, and were sold exclusively at John Deere retailers.  At 71 years young, Dad is easing away from tinkering on bicycles a bit, and is making good use of his time cruising around on his Gary Fisher racing mountain bike.  He knew I would restore the old John Deere bike to its former glory, and in turn get good use out of it, so he gifted it to me last year. As you can see from the picture above, this bike looked more like a mountain bike hybrid than a vintage 1970s 10-speed, and with good reason.  The forward riding posture that the typical road bike requires wasn't conducive to my Dads age and style of riding that he has grown accustomed to.  Therefore, a comfort bike seat and cruiser style bars were added to acquire his desired upright riding style.
